Don’t give up on mathematics as it is very important in all aspects of life, personal and professional. Math helps develop thinking patterns that can sub-consciously help in logic, analytics, balance and in calculated risk taking.
— Bhavika, Go Girl's Mathematician

Go Girl chatted to our very own Maths and Data Specialist, Bhavika about her journey from school to now, what she learnt along the way, and who she’s become. Bhavika is passionate about mathematics, and it was great for her to think about when she was in school, and what advice she’d give to her younger self. Bhavika hopes to inspire other Go Girls into a career in numbers!

I wish I stressed less, and enjoyed the journey of learning. I was always in a competitive mode, and worried about what was coming in the future. I think the advice would be - Stress less, trust the process, and go with the flow.

Go Girl Interview with Bhavika

Tell us about yourself? What do you enjoy?

I enjoy reading, and sharing my knowledge by mentoring. I always look forward to meeting new people, networking and listening to them. I am very curious and ask a lot of whys, which has helped develop and exercise my analytical mind

what subjects did you like in high school?

Growing up I loved school and learning. My favourites were Math and Sciences, where theory was accompanied by practical application. I did enjoy other subjects like languages, social sciences and arts but I realised very early that I was not as passionate about them

When did you realise you wanted to do in your career?

I was always passionate about data and proofs as it helps shaping decisions and drawing inferences. While doing my Masters, I got an internship focusing on data and got exposed to business analytics and how it guided teams and organisation to take decisions. It involved, uncovering facts and patterns from mountains of information, understanding how it impacts the business, join the dots, discussing with my peers and professor, and finally solving REAL business problems. I loved what I was learning is what I was doing, and ended up working there four years after my internship

What advice would you give to your younger self?

I wish I stressed less, and enjoyed the journey of learning. I was always in a competitive mode, and worried about what was coming in the future. I think the advice would be - Stress less, trust the process, and go with the flow
