Poppy Salerno is the Operations and Service Innovation Manager at Datacom Systems Victoria. Poppy has over 16 years of experience in the IT sector, specialising in Government, Private Sector and Enterprise Managed Services. Poppy brings to the table a wealth of knowledge in the service desk, service management, sales and employee engagement arena. Poppy is very passionate about ensuring all staff within the organisation are valued, heard and appropriately rewarded and believes that this is the key to high performing teams.
Poppy recognises that each individual has differing needs in the workplace and finding a way to harness what motivates and drives each and every individual is paramount. Poppy does not identify as a people pleaser but a catalyst for creating self awareness and helping individuals i recognise where change is required.
What is the most awesome thing about having a career in tech for you?
The amazing things that you see people do every day. Everyday is different and every person in the industry is passionate about what they do, because it’s also what they love!
As a child, did you dream of a career in tech?
NO – definitely not!
What’s the coolest thing you’ve done, both personally and professionally?
Personally – Attended a 4 day heavy metal festival in northern germany.
Professionally – Creator of the Australia/NZ Parliaments IT Conference. Its now in its 12th year. (A forum for all IT personnel in all the states to collaborate and share resources)
Why are you passionate about diversity in technology?
We encounter so many challenges in our working life. Diversity helps us to bring variety and balance to a workplace. There are many ways to skin a cat!
What would your advice be to your 15 year old self?
Thoughtfully consider how you construct your digital footprint. Once its there, its there forever!
